Practical Information
The things we wish more visitors knew before they arrived.
Climate & Best Time to Visit
Alanya has over 300 sunny days per year. Summer (June–September) is hot and dry — 35–40°C at peak. Spring (April–May) and autumn (October–November) offer the best balance: warm, quieter, and more affordable. Winter (December–March) is mild at 15–18°C — ideal for cultural visits, though most beach businesses close.
Currency
The official currency is the Turkish Lira (TRY). Euros and US Dollars are widely accepted at hotels, tourist shops, and restaurants in the resort areas. ATMs are abundant. We accept cash in EUR, USD, GBP, and TRY — no surcharge.
SIM Cards & Mobile Data
Turkish SIM cards are available at Antalya Airport and Gazipaşa Airport on arrival, as well as at Turkcell, Vodafone TR, and Türk Telekom shops in Alanya. A tourist SIM with 20–30 GB data costs around 200–350 TRY. Your driver can point you to the nearest provider.
Getting Around Alanya
Within Alanya, shared minibuses (dolmuş) run frequently along the main coastal road for a few lira. Taxis are metered and readily available. For trips to Side, Antalya, or nearby villages, private transfer is the most practical option — dolmuş routes don't cover most resort-to-resort trips.
Which Airport to Use
Gazipaşa–Alanya Airport (GZP) is just 65 km from central Alanya — about 45 minutes by transfer. Antalya Airport (AYT) is 135 km away — about 75 minutes. GZP has fewer routes and is primarily charter/seasonal. Check both airports when booking flights — GZP is significantly more convenient if your airline operates there.
