A practical guide to Side — what to see, where to eat, and how to get around this unique ancient city turned resort town.
Aspendos is an ancient Greco-Roman city 40 km east of Antalya. Built during the reign of Emperor Marcus Aurelius (ca. 155–180 AD), its theatre is widely considered the best-preserved Roman theatre in the world.
🎭 THE THEATRE Architect: Zenon, son of Theodorus (a native of Aspendos) Capacity: ~15,000 spectators Diameter: 96 metres Stage building: Fully intact two-storey facade (scaenae frons)
The stage building stands at full height — a feature almost no other Roman theatre retains. The acoustics allow sounds from the stage to reach the top rows.
