Aspendos Theatre: The Best-Preserved Roman Theatre in the World

Aspendos is an ancient Greco-Roman city 40 km east of Antalya. Built during the reign of Emperor Marcus Aurelius (ca. 155–180 AD), its theatre is widely considered the best-preserved Roman theatre in the world.

The stage building stands at full height — a feature almost no other Roman theatre retains. The acoustics allow sounds from the stage to reach the top rows.

🎶 CURRENT USE The theatre hosts the annual Aspendos International Opera and Ballet Festival, organised by the Turkish State Opera and Ballet since 1994.
