Perge is located 19 km east of Antalya and was one of the most important cities of ancient Pamphylia. Its history dates to at least the 12th century BC, though most visible structures were built by the Romans between the 2nd century BC and 3rd century AD.
Alexander the Great passed through in 333 BC on his eastward campaign. The Apostle Paul preached here during his first missionary journey (Acts 13:13). Perge was added to the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List in 2009.
